The central theme of this 'Hemingway documentary' is a massive ski tour that Hemingway, Dos Passos and their ski instructor Walter Lent undertook from Schruns to Galtür in Tyrol: 'We had a long march through the valley and finally up to the Madlenerhaus (1986 metres above sea level)'. Ernest Hemingway, who was called 'black, cherry-drinking Christ' by the locals, describes his experiences in Vorarlberg in his work 'Ein glücklicher Winter' and the ski tour from Schruns to Galtür in 'Gebirgsidyll'.
