In the 19th century, a poor farmer, the hunter Pierre Gaspard, use his knowledge of the mountain to guide the first mountaineers to discover the Oisans. Very quickly, the highest point of the massif, La Meije becomes the peak to reach. Gaspard will have the honor of being the first. With Boileau de Castelnau, an aristocratic passionate by the mountain, and after several attempts, he reached the top in August 1877.
