The sixty-year-old alpinist Hartwig Erdenkäufer, from Franconia in Germany, looking at a photo of the west face of Totenkirchl in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains, relives his initiation as a climber in 1954. The film follows retrospective scenes of that period, sports climbing in the eighties and today’s free climbing.
