Naomi Uemura had a difficult childhood that led him to take on incredibly dangerous challenges all by himself, in which he remarkably succeeded again and again. He was the first Japanese to reach the summit of Mt. Everest and the first man ever to reach the North Pole solo, the first man ever to raft the Amazon solo, and the first man ever to climb Denali (Mt. McKinley) solo. In 1984 while descending from the summit of Denali in Alaska, Uemura disappeared. His body was never found.
