Apa Sherpa

Every spring the summit of Mount Everest draws people from around the world. But in its shadow live the Sherpa, a resilient, religious people, who, despite the riches surrounding the highest peak on earth, are still quite poor and uneducated. A child of the Khumbu, Apa Sherpa climbed Everest 21 times. Pulled away at the age of 12 to work as a high altitude porter, like so many others, he would leave his family for months, risking his life on the mountain. Through his work at the Apa Sherpa Foundation, he aims to create a different future for his people.

Eight summits is a documentary about alpinism that takes place in Everest. It was directed by Allan R. Smith in 2012 and produced by DreamQuest Productions. It features Bill Burke, Sharon Burke, Alan Arnette, Apa Sherpa, Vern Tejas, David Leano and others.

Documentary following a team of environmentally conscious climbers on an expedition up Mount Everest in Spring 2000 to clean up the discarded rubbish and human waste of previous climbing expeditions of the past fifty years.

In 1952 Raymond Lambert and Tensing Norgay reach a height of about 8,595 metres (28,199 ft) on the southeast ridge of Mount Everest, setting a new climbing altitude record, opening up a new route to Mount Everest and paving the way for further successes by other expeditions. 50 years later, in 2002, Yves Lambert, the son of Raymond Lambert, and Tashi Tensing, the grandson of Tensing Norgay, reach the summit of Everest in a commemorative expedition organized by Stéphane Schaffter.
