The film follows two mountain enthusiasts, battling through a glacier area in the Swiss mountains. The mountaineers are two very prominent skiers at the time, Hannes Schneider and Ilse Rohde, who climb the Lyskamm. Arnold Fanck's film production company (Berg und Sportfilm GmbH) was acquired in 1925 by the UFA, whose cultural department reedited the film into a short and sound version in 1940 with the music of Giuseppe Becce.- 1941

They climb roped from the Betemps Cabane and reach the summit of Monte Rosa, then, they start the descent on skis to return to the refuge. The film is one of the first ski mountaineering films and the first collaboration between Allgeiger and Fanck, two of the fathers of the bergfilm, the German mountain film genre.- 1913

Determined to prove that he is right, he takes advantage of the interest of the Swiss naturalist and physicist Horace Benedict de Saussure, who promises a reward of a thousand pieces of gold for the first who reaches the summit. The determination of Jacques Balmat will overcome the numerous obstacles that will arise during the ascent. There is a French version of the film (Reve Eternel), co-signed by Henri Chomette, in which the second-tier actors are different.- 1934
