The Matterhorn. An invincible mountain - until 150 years ago. It all changed on the 14th July 1865, when two mountaineer groups raced to the top, wanting to be the first to reach the peak of the majestic mountain. The British-Swiss team were victorious. But the triumph soon turned into tragedy. During the descent, four mountaineers tragically died. But was it an unfortunate accident, or sabotage? Or even murder?
The documentary «Tatort Matterhorn» - produced by the Swiss television channel SRF - tries to solve the case that led to the dramatic happenings on the Swiss Alps.

150 years ago the summit of the Matterhorn, 4478m was reached for the first time. The Matterhorn, with its performance and its tragic end, marks the end of the golden age of mountaineering, a period during which man changed his vision of the mountain and especially of the Alps. This period of the golden age was marked by the association of men and summits. The mountains became a game, a sport, a source of competition and exploration. How did this uncontrollable attraction between these pioneers and these summits arise, how did they achieve these exploits, who are they, what has changed for humans and mountaineering? What about today...?

Terra X - Tatort Matterhorn is a documentary about alpinism that takes place in Matterhorn. It was directed by Tilman Remme in 2015 and produced by SRF. It features David Göttler, Pen Hadow, Stephen Venables, Benedikt Perren, Christian Schwarzenegger, Craig Fletcher and others.

On the weekend of August 1, 2004, the Matterhorn is in full swing: 100 people are waiting in the Hörndlihütte at 3260 meters to climb the Matterhorn the next day. In Zermatt, the Japanese are ready at 05:30 to photograph the first ray of sunshine touching the top of the Matterhorn. And the saviors in the valley are alarmed.
