    Mensch und Fels

    Mensch und Fels

    Wolfgang Gorter (1955)

A film that differs considerably from normal mountain production: it aims to explain to those without mountaineering experience the reasons that can lead a climber to attempt, on his own, a summit. His language is extremely close to the theme: linear and devoid of any complacency, both photographic and narrative.

Luis Trenker - Pionier und Egomane

Luis Trenker - Pionier und Egomane

    Karin Duregger (2016)

Even more than 25 years after his death, Luis Trenker is still an icon of the mountains: no one else has ensured such a lasting popularisation of the living environment in the (South) Tyrolean Alps. Whether as a film pioneer or as a TV presenter, he captivated an audience of millions. A gnarly nature boy in a felt hat and a mountaineer's shirt: Luis Trenker, who died in 1990, is still remembered today. In the 1920s and 1930s, the actor, screenwriter and director shaped the young genre of 'mountain film'. His films attracted the masses to the cinema - and at the same time fascinated the dictators of the time, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini.

Karl Maria Herrligkoffer - Visionär und Wegbegleiter

    Kathrin Denk (2016)

Karl Maria Herrligkoffer is regarded as the most important German organizer of eight-thousand-meter expeditions after the Second World War - Karl Maria Herrligkoffer (1916-1991). The Munich doctor and psychologist made it possible for mountaineers such as Hermann Buhl, Anderl Mannhardt, Toni Kinshofer, Reinhold Messner, Michl Dacher, Sigi Hupfauer, Hans Engl and many others to realize their dream of climbing eight-thousanders. However, several times after the successes on the mountain, there were disputes between the expedition leader and individual participants. Above all, the bitter dispute with Reinhold Messner after the Nanga-Parbat-Expedition in 1970, during which Günther Messner had died, caused Herrligkoffer a considerable damage to his image.
