Tatort Matterhorn
Gieri Venzin (2015)
The Matterhorn. An invincible mountain - until 150 years ago. It all changed on the 14th July 1865, when two mountaineer groups raced to the top, wanting to be the first to reach the peak of the majestic mountain. The British-Swiss team were victorious. But the triumph soon turned into tragedy. During the descent, four mountaineers tragically died. But was it an unfortunate accident, or sabotage? Or even murder?

1865-2015 - 150 ans de l'alpinisme
Cedric Bejeannin (2015)
150 years ago the summit of the Matterhorn, 4478m was reached for the first time. The Matterhorn, with its performance and its tragic end, marks the end of the golden age of mountaineering, a period during which man changed his vision of the mountain and especially of the Alps. This period of the golden age was marked by the association of men and summits. The mountains became a game, a sport, a source of competition and exploration. How did this uncontrollable attraction between these pioneers and these summits arise, how did they achieve these exploits, who are they, what has changed for humans and mountaineering? What about today...?1865-2015 - 150 ans de l'alpinisme

L'Aiguille Verte
Bertrand Delapierre (2016)
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the first ascent of the Aiguille Verte, the Compagnie des Guides de Chamonix is making a film that traces the main dates of this summit that is so dear to it. 'La Verte' has been the object of desire of many mountaineers for a century and a half. Big names marched in search of this 4122-metre peak: Edward Whymper, Michel Croz, Albert Mummery, Armand Charlet, Marco Siffredi... The Verte has strongly marked the history of mountaineering, inspiring Gaston Rébuffat who warned future contenders for this summit: 'Before the Verte one is a climber, in the Verte one becomes a mountainer'.- 2016

Die Berge, die Menschen, der Wahn
Stefan König (1998)
Questions are kept in mind: what impelled and drove the people into these extreme landscapes, onto such dangerous heights? What do they get from the mountains and what do they do to the mountains? These questions are the basis for this two hour documentary. This is the first film which takes a unique and comprehensive approach to this extensive subject. There is no commentary necessary, as the protagonists giving their account of the cultural history are experts in their field and quite charismatic personalities. This documentary film is not only conveyed through the lavish pictures or alpinistic enthusiasm, but through the individuals narrating each chapter.Die Berge, die Menschen, der Wahn

Der Kampf ums Matterhorn
Nunzio Malasomma (1934)
Sounded version of the 1928 film 'Der Kampf ums Matterhorn'. The added sound track included music composed by Schmidt-Boelckeb and dubbed dialogs by different actors. This version is slightly shorter than the silent film due to the disappearance of the movie titles. The story, based on the novel by Carl Haensel recreates the struggle between Edward Whymper and Jean-Antoine Carrel for the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. In 1938 two new versions of the movie were filmed under the direction of Luis Trenker, who acted again in the role of Carrel. One version was shot in German (Der Berg ruft) and the other in English (The Challenge).Nunzio Malasomma, Mario Bonnard
