Le laboratoire face à l'Everest
Jim McKenna (1996)
The glass pyramid is the highest scientific laboratory in the world. Located opposite Everest, Nepal, at an altitude of 5030 metres, it hosts many researchers whose objective is to study the impact of very high altitude on the body. At this altitude, the human body must adapt. As with scuba diving, the hiker must mark landings every 510 metres. If the latter are not respected, the risk of 'mountain sickness' is very high, and this does not result in nausea and headaches at best, but can go as far as pulmonary or cerebral edema. Through various experiments on top athletes, a researcher is trying to understand these mechanisms in order to apply his findings to patients suffering from cardiovascular disease.Le laboratoire face à l'Everest

Hypoxia
Charlie Buffet (2006)
How does the human body react when pushed into its limits? This episode of 'Beyond human limits' investigates through various experiments performed by alpinists and/or doctors about hypoxia, a disorder by which the complete body, or a region of it is deprived of the adequate oxygen supply. The documentary reviews the experience of Dr. Nicolas Jaeger, who in 1979 tested his own resistance to hypoxia, by living two months at an altitude of 6,700 meters on the highest peak of the Peruvian Andes, the Nevado Huascaran.- 2006
