    Un piton de plus

    Bruno Peyronnet (2018)

Georges Livanos. Today this name evokes nothing, or so little, even in the heart of Chamonix, the Mecca of mountaineering... And yet... The man who was nicknamed 'Le Grec' in the 1950s, due to his paternal ancestry, was undoubtedly one of the most important French mountaineers of his time. Mountain guide Yann Borgnet immerses in Georges' footsteps and imagines an alpine journey, designed to visit the great routes opened by him. A dive into the heart of an immense vertical heritage, to meet a great almost forgotten figure of mountaineering and all the heritage he left.

    La Grande Cordée

    La Grande Cordée

    Jean Afanassieff (1997)

French mountaineering after the war underwent great renewal. In contrast to aristocratic mountaineering with personalities like Henri de Ségogne, and professional mountaineering with guides as the emblematic figures, a new form of amateur mountaineering developed from the Parisian working classes: 'cheeky' mountaineering. The Robert Paragot-Lucien Bérardini team is the most striking illustration of this. Insolent, iconoclastic, anticonformist, they symbolise the post-war climbers from modest backgrounds who, caring nothing for conventions and rules, upset the stereotypes of the 'perfect mountaineer'.

    Le Grec - Georges Livanos

    Jean Afanassieff (1994)

Jean Afanasieff, a film director and the first Frenchman to climb Everest, pays homage to the veteran Georges Livanos, nicknamed 'the Greek', a famous mountaineer whose best performances were accomplished between 1950 and 1960. The documentary gives a clear-cut portrait. The personage comes out well on the screen and is genuine. A man who has made mountaineering history and is a point of reference for the new generations of climbers of Calanques, in Marseilles.
