    Fleischbank - Ostwand

    Fleischbank - Ostwand

    Gerhard Baur (1985)

The technique of sports climbing is compared with classical climbing with alternative demonstrations of both. The result is a historical reconstruction which evokes the great climbers of the past: Otto Herzog, Hans Fiechtl, Hans Dülfer, Paul Preuss, Lettenbauer, Solleder. Eiger Nordwand

    Eiger Nordwand

    Gerhard Baur (2000)

The two young Allgäu climbers Holger Wendel and Thomas Burger enter the infamous Eiger North Wall without informing anyone. A sudden fall in the weather in the middle of the wall puts them in an icy inferno: lightning, avalanches and cold. On a small heel, they wait nine days for the ever-closer death. Gerhard Baur, who accidentally discovers the tent of the two mountaineers left at the foot of the wall, sets a rescue operation in motion, as if by a miracle both survive. In his film, Baur reconstructs the real events.

    Die Vajolettürme

    Die Vajolettürme

    Gerhard Baur (1985)

The Torri del Vajolet, their history and the first time they were climbed is recounted in this film. When, a hundred years ago, Georg Winkler of Munich, climbed to the summit of one of them alone, everyone was amazed. Winkler with this climb opened a new area in alpinism; an alpinism "without guides" and "solo" but at the time difficult and hazardous without the use of ropes for safety. The Torri provide some of the best climbing in the Dolomites even today.

    Die Eiger-Nordwand Tragödie 1936

    Die Eiger-Nordwand Tragödie 1936

    Gerhard Baur (1981)

In 1936, in the Alps, only the Eiger North Wall still had to be climbed. Standing 1800 metres high, it was certainly the highest but also the most dangerous and difficult of the big inviolate walls. In 1935, two Bavarian alpinists from Munich lost their lives trying to reach the top. In 1936, two German soldiers, Toni Kurz and Andreas Interstoisser, made an attempt despite their commander's order not to do so. The attempt turned into a tragedy in which, not only the two Germans lost their lives, but also two Austrian companions who had joined them by chance.
