The 'Escoffier style' is a unique cocktail of grace, speed and nerve. Minimal equipment, no tiresome need for recognition, no stress but instead betting it all on the very limits of what is thought possible along with an established daredevil reputation. Being independent, fast-paced, improvising, these were the rules he lived by. From 1985 onwards, everything he did was a success: delta, firsts, climbing, race driving... As he liked to say: "Nothing is impossible". He seemed indestructible. However, on 11 September 1987, a car accident left him hemiplegic, but not to be defeated, he soon set numerous goals.Climbing locations

he American Alpine climber Gary Hemming was a figure of the 60’s. The story of this out-of-the-common character is closely linked to that of the mountain rescue in Les Drus in 1966, in the mont Blanc range, a rescue he took the initiative for. The press fell on the event and raised Gary Hemming to the status of a national hero. All the papers show on the front page this big young man who looks like a 'beatnik' dressed all anyhow, with a wide smile and long fair hair. From then on, he is nicknamed the beatnik of the summits. In Chamonix he is already known. Gary landed in France in 1960 and while preparing a university degree in Grenoble, he devotes himself to his passion: climbing.Climbing locations

French mountaineering after the war underwent great renewal. In contrast to aristocratic mountaineering with personalities like Henri de Ségogne, and professional mountaineering with guides as the emblematic figures, a new form of amateur mountaineering developed from the Parisian working classes: 'cheeky' mountaineering. The Robert Paragot-Lucien Bérardini team is the most striking illustration of this. Insolent, iconoclastic, anticonformist, they symbolise the post-war climbers from modest backgrounds who, caring nothing for conventions and rules, upset the stereotypes of the 'perfect mountaineer'.Climbing locations
