Dateline reporter and aspiring mountain climber Jen Peedom take a behind the scenes look at the forgotten heroes of the Himalayas - the Sherpas. After weeks becoming acclimatised to Everest’s altitude, Jen took up her camera and captured a unique glimpse into the essential role the Sherpas play in helping foreign climbers make it to the top of the world.

Sherpa is a documentary about alpinism that takes place in Everest. It was directed by Jennifer Peedom in 2015 and produced by Arrow Media. It features Phurba Tashi Sherpa, Russell Brice and Ed Douglas.

2006 was one of the deadliest Everest seasons on record. Experienced mountaineer Lincoln Hall was invited to join an expedition as a high-altitude cameraman. After reaching the summit, Hall experienced a lack of oxygen and eventually collapsed and was declared dead. His family was informed and the news hit headlines. The next morning, Lincoln was found alive by approaching climbers and his dramatic rescue began. Never before had a man been declared dead so high on Everest then and survived.
