Kate Ballard

Surviving the summit is a documentary about alpinism that takes place in K2. It was directed by James McQuillan in 2000 and produced by FilmOasis. It is a part of the series Quest for K2 (5/6). It features Greg Child, Jim Wickwire, Jim Curran, Rick Ridgeway, Alison Hargreaves, Misael Alvial and others.

K2 - A mother's last mountain is a documentary about alpinism that takes place in K2. It was produced in 1996 by National Geographic. It is a part of the series National Geographic Explorer. It features James Ballard, Tom Ballard, Katie Ballard and Alison Hargreaves.

There are only five women who have reached the summit of K2 (8.616m). But three of them died while descending the mountain. The other two were killed in accidents on their following expeditions. The outstanding spanish mountaineer Araceli Segarra is quite aware of her forerunners fate.

The documentary follows Jim Ballard and his two young children (Kate and Tom Ballard) as they visit K2, the mountain on which his wife, the climber Alsion Hargreaves, died in 1995. Alison was a British mountain climber. Her accomplishments included scaling Mount Everest alone, without supplementary oxygen or support from a Sherpa team, in 1995. She soloed all the great north faces of the Alps in a single season. In 1995, Hargreaves intended to climb the three highest mountains in the world—Mount Everest, K2, and Kangchenjunga—unaided. She succeeded on Everest, but she died while descending from the summit of K2.

Historical documentary about the coquest of Everest. The pre-war attempts, the first successful assault in 1953 and subsequent expeditions, including the attempts to climb it without oxygen. The documentary shows the ascent routes of the different expeditions and the climbing methods they used. The film is mostly made using film footage of all those historical expeditions.
