Red Szell suffers from the degenerative eye condition retinitis pigmentosa and is now blind. But he’s always had an adventurous streak and in this inspirational journey, we see Red travel to the very NW corner of Scotland. As the first blind climber to reach the top of the iconic sea stacks of the Old Man Of Hoy and Old Man Of Stoer only Am Buachaille remains in the trilogy of these blades of rock that jut from the crashing Atlantic. Just reaching the base will involve a triathlon of sorts, with a mountain bike ride, a steep scramble down the mainland cliff before a swim across the tidal flow to reach the start of the climb. He then has four hours to get up and get off before the tide races in. Red’s story is a journey beyond sight.Climbing locations

Tim Emmett and Dave MacLeod attempted a new route on Sron Uladail in Harris in august 2010. They did it live on TV on BBC Scotland - the result? Over five hours of nail-biting television, a new E9 7b and a race against time to finish before the broadcast's scheduled end - the DVD set includes the Director's cut with a load of previously unseen and unheard material. The Great Climb was the BBC's first live climbing outside broadcast since 1967 featured ascents of 'the Old Man of Hoy' where three pairs of climbers: Bonington and Patey repeated their original route, whilst two new lines were climbed, by Joe Brown and Ian McNaught-Davis, and by Pete Crew and Dougal Haston the original was watched by around 15 million people.Climbing locations
