    Die grossen Nordwände

    Die grossen Nordwände

    Gerald Salmina (2016)

North faces are the epitome of extreme mountaineering. This is particularly true of the north faces of the Eiger, Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses, Piz Badile, Großer Zinne, Petit Dru and the Drei Zinnen - in the 20th century they embodied the goals a mountaineer must have set himself in order to belong to the elite. To this day, they are playgrounds of extremes. The documentary shows the large north faces of the Alps from a surprising perspective. World-renowned top mountaineers such as Hansjörg Auer, Alexander Huber and Robert Jasper demonstrate the art of climbing at the highest level with first ascents and solo ascents.

    Das Elbsandsteingebirge

    Das Elbsandsteingebirge

    Lothar Brandler (1978)

In the summer of 1978, Lothar Brandler, the axis of exile, once again made a trip to his old homeland. He had the 16mm film camera secretly in his luggage. For the 'Westfernsehen' he wanted to shoot a small strip over the beautiful Elbsandsteingebirge. Starting in Dresden, he travelled to the rocks where he himself had climbed a lot in the past and was able to make some first ascents. During his excursion he meets Bernd Arnold and his companions, among others. Arnold tries his hand at a first ascent of the Rauschenstein. At Pfaffenstein Arnold succeeds in the first ascent of the eastern pillar to the twins at the end of July. At some point, the film disappeared in Lothar Brandler's huge archive. Now we have excavated the film again, digitized it and show it for the first time in Dresden. A retrospective into the world of Saxon mountaineering of the 70s.

Die Berge, die Menschen, der Wahn Vod

Die Berge, die Menschen, der Wahn

    Stefan König (1998)

Questions are kept in mind: what impelled and drove the people into these extreme landscapes, onto such dangerous heights? What do they get from the mountains and what do they do to the mountains? These questions are the basis for this two hour documentary. This is the first film which takes a unique and comprehensive approach to this extensive subject. There is no commentary necessary, as the protagonists giving their account of the cultural history are experts in their field and quite charismatic personalities. This documentary film is not only conveyed through the lavish pictures or alpinistic enthusiasm, but through the individuals narrating each chapter.
