Two different groups of climbers ascend the same mountain through a glacier in the alps. Three young and well-trained men, members of the 'Gruppo Scoiattoli Cortina', make a daring ascent by a difficult route through the ice cracks and seracs. In parallel, a beautiful young woman and a guide ascend by an easier route. On their way down, the three men meet the guide and the woman and help them to recover the woman's backpack, fallen into a crevasse. The action is followed by skiers in a ski lodge and by a veteran climber with binoculars. A short film by Luis Trenker.- 1954

On 14 July 1865 the Matterhorn was first climbed. Bergwelten takes this event as an opportunity to take a look at the most exciting events on the most famous mountain in the Alps. From the first summit ascent, the first ascent of the north face in 1931 and the legendary winter solo entrance of the Italian Walter Bonatti in 1965, to the unique achievements of today's mountaineers. The film impresses with spectacular climbing shots and unique shots of the film work in the wall. And it accompanies people whose lives are inseparably linked to the unique mountain on the Swiss-Italian border. The Zermatt mountain guide Michi Lerjen grew up on the Swiss side of the mountain. Sounded version of the 1928 film 'Der Kampf ums Matterhorn'. The added sound track included music composed by Schmidt-Boelckeb and dubbed dialogs by different actors. This version is slightly shorter than the silent film due to the disappearance of the movie titles. The story, based on the novel by Carl Haensel recreates the struggle between Edward Whymper and Jean-Antoine Carrel for the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. In 1938 two new versions of the movie were filmed under the direction of Luis Trenker, who acted again in the role of Carrel.
