On May 30, 1970, Peru suffered a severe earthquake that killed approximately 75,000 people. Several towns and villages were tilted to the ground. On the fateful day, at the foot of Mount Huascaran, a Czechoslovak climbing expedition of fourteen men was set. Their camp, unfortunately, stood directly in the path of a huge avalanche, which had eased from the top of the highest mountain of the Cordillera Blanca as a result of the earthquake, and swept the entire base camp with all the members of the expedition mercilessly.Climbing locations
