    The Climbers

    Sid Perou (1988)

This film documents ascents on the cliffs of Kame on Foula in the Shetlands, at 1,300' one of the highest sea cliffs in the British Isles. It was an unusual expedition, in that although it featured some top climbers, it was initiated by Abigail Mann, a relatively inexperienced teenager. The film was broadcast on 24th September 1989 on BBC One, although it had been also been broadcast by the BBC earlier that year. The main climbers were Jonny Dawes, Dave Thomas, Pete Whillance, and Paul Nunn. Sid Perou was the main cameraman as well as one of the producers.

    Eden

    Dom Bush (2015)

In the early 1970’s the border city of Carlisle became an unlikely epicentre for hard traditional climbing and a scene developed that rivaled any in the UK. The atmosphere was competitive, a new E-grading system was born and new milestones were set. Eden is set around a little known crag close to Carlisle called Armathwaite, it was a meeting place and training venue for the Penrith and Carlisle teams who were looking to make their mark on the British crags.

    The Old Man of Hoy

    The Old Man of Hoy

    Michael Begg (1984)

Live coverage of an attempt by four climbers on the most famous chunk of rock in Britain, The Old Man of Hoy. It's 17 years since Hoy was televised but the risks haven't diminished. Murray Hamilton and Pete Whillance will tackle the overhanging south-east edge, but without the protection of the bolts and pitons used on the first ascent. Also on the south face is the legendary Joe Brown, climbing with his daughter Zoe, six months old in 1967, at the time of the first broadcast. Her climbing till now has been on small crags. At the thought of climbing 450 feet, with maximum exposure, she is, she says, 'absolutely terrified'.
