- 2000

- 47 min
Many mountaineers in the course of their activity have used cameras and films to let us participate through images in their adventures and emotions. Many of them have become true film professionals: Lionel Terray, Marcel Ichac, Renè Vernadet, Jean Afanasieff, Pierre Royer, Denis Ducroz, Kurt Diemberg and many others are among the so-called conquerors of the mountain image. The film describes the passion of these men in the highest mountains on earth...behind the lens.Climbing locations

To understand the difficulties of an ascent to over eight thousand metres, it is enough to remember the almost 300 victims these peaks have claimed. The Swiss alpinist Ehrart Loretan, the third alpinist in the world to have climbed all 14 8,000, and the Austrian alpinist Kurt Diemgerger cover the whole history of the conquest of the world’s 8,000, from the fifties to the present day, together with other alpinists and film directors who have climbed them. They talk about their experienced when they ventured into the death zone.Climbing locations

Sixth and last episode of 'The climbers', a six-part series on the history of mountaineering by Chris Bonington and Richard Else produced by the BBC. This episode tells how climbing appears to have changed radically during the last ten years - from sport into a spectacle. But Chris Bonington argues is that, whatever it is, climbing has always been about new challenges... The program reviews outstanding ascents by French top climbers like Christophe Profit, Eric Escoffier, and Jean-Marc Boivin.Climbing locations

On October 4, 1984, two mountaineers from Grenoble, Pierre Beghin and Jean-Noël Roche, climb the south-west pillar of Dhaulagiri in alpine style and without supplemental oxygen. The route, opened by a wide and 'heavy' Japanese expedition in 1978, follows the western ridge and presents 3000m of vertical ascent in mixed terrain. Beghin and Roche complete the second ascent and the first one in alpine style. There, on the mountain of the winds, Jean-Noël Roche performs a paragliding flight from an altitude of more than 5000 meters.Climbing locations

Climbing K2 by its difficult and unconquered south-west ridge is the goal that Bernard Mellet set after two years of careful preparation. To overcome this ambitious achievement he has selected fourteen of the best french climbers of the moment. The team reached a height of 8400 meters, 200 meters below the summit. The route, called the 'magic line' was first climbed seven years later, in 1986, by a Polish team. The route was not successfully repeated until 2004, when Jordi Corominas, from a Catalan team, completed it.Climbing locations

After a brief review of the history of the expeditions to Mount Everest, the documentary focuses on the figure of Bernard Muller, founder of Stages Expedition, and one of the first guides to lead mountaineers to the summit of Everest. Since 1990, the agency has organized dozens of successful ascents on the biggest peaks of the planet, and especially on Everest. The film pays attention to Muller's expedition to Manaslu in 1981 (where he made the first ascent of the west wall together with Pierre Beghin) and to his last expedition to Mount Everest in 2006.Climbing locations
