Pura vida - Nur das Überleben zählt

Pura vida - Nur das Überleben zählt

    Migueltxo Molina (2015)

Shortened version for the Bergewlten series of the Spanish documentary 'The ridge'. On the south face of Annapurna, at 7,400 metres, Iñaki Ochoa de Olza is dying. His rope companion sounds the alarm. And, from the other side of the world, the biggest rescue attempt in the history of the Himalayas gets underway. For four days a dozen men including some of the best mountaineers in the world, from ten countries, set out to try to rescue their stricken comrade. Even beyond his peaks Iñaki is an exceptional man. As exceptional as the rescue attempt itself and the men who risked their lives to save him. Exceptional because their one driving rule is to live. To live in the only way possible: with pure intensity and honesty.

    Peter Habeler

    Werner Bertolan (2017)

On the 8th of May 1978, Peter Habeler becomes worldwide famous. Together with his roped partner Reinhold Messner, he is the first man to reach the summit of Mount Everest without using oxygen bottles. Among the masterpieces of this top mountaineer one can rank most difficult tours in the Wilder Kaiser mountain range, being the first European on the Big Walls in the Californian Yosemite Valley, the biggest ascent of the Eiger North Face, the first ascent of an 8000m peak in Alpine style and successful ascents on three further 8000m summits. For his 75th birthday, he has a big goal: he wants to climb again the wall, which has been a highlight of his alpine career: the Eiger North Face. David Lama - Zurück zu den Wurzeln

David Lama - Zurück zu den Wurzeln

    Martin Hanslmayr (2017)

For a long time, the Austrian climber David Lama wished to turn to Nepal. The family visit of his ancestors was only one part of the travel. The second reason was – what else could it be? – a mountain. The first ascent of the 6907m high Lunag Ri. This combination of a completely untouched summit and a challenging climbing part is all but commonplace. The Lunag Ri is very difficult on all its sides. Already several expeditions have tried their luck there. Together with the legendary climber Conrad Anker, David sets off to the highest, still unclimbed mountain in Nepal.

Tiefer Schnee - Abenteuer in Alaska

Tiefer Schnee - Abenteuer in Alaska

    Max Reichel (2017)

In 2014, three of the winners of the Freeride World Tour, Nadine Wallner, Christine Hargin and Eva Walkner, made their way to this very place to ski. For ten days they wanted to camp in the Mount Saint Elias area and ski their lines in virgin snow. However while in Haines, before they could begin their trek to the camp, Nadine crashed hard in steep terrain, breaking her shinbone and fibula, thus cutting their expedition short. In this 47-minute one-off documentary, the women venture out in the Denali area on the Kalhitna Glacier, where they spend ten days attempting to finish what they started two years prior.

    Der Dachstein

    Tom Dauer (2017)

The Dachstein, 2,995 m high and exactly on the border between Styria and Upper Austria - and thus the highest mountain of both federal states. The documentary presents this natural beauty in overwhelming pictures. The mountain guide Heli Putz, who grew up on the Simony hut, crosses the mountains with different mountain partners and in different disciplines. As varied as the mountains themselves. The documentary stages the beauty of nature in overwhelming images.

    Die grossen Nordwände

    Die grossen Nordwände

    Gerald Salmina (2016)

North faces are the epitome of extreme mountaineering. This is particularly true of the north faces of the Eiger, Matterhorn, Grandes Jorasses, Piz Badile, Großer Zinne, Petit Dru and the Drei Zinnen - in the 20th century they embodied the goals a mountaineer must have set himself in order to belong to the elite. To this day, they are playgrounds of extremes. The documentary shows the large north faces of the Alps from a surprising perspective. World-renowned top mountaineers such as Hansjörg Auer, Alexander Huber and Robert Jasper demonstrate the art of climbing at the highest level with first ascents and solo ascents.

Still alive - Drama am Mt. Kenya

    Reinhold Messner (2016)

September 5th, 1970: Oswald Ölz and Gert Judmaier, two young Austrian climbers, have just left the summit of Mount Kenya (at 5,199 m, the second highest mountain in Africa) and begin their climb back down the North Face. With his leg severely injured, there is no chance of getting him down the mountain to medical attention any time soon. What starts now, is the first intercontinental rescue mission organized from Innsbruck. After seven days, Gert Judmaier can finally be recovered from the cliff wall and flown to the University Hospital in Innsbruck. More than 40 years later, Prof. Oswald Ölz and Prof. Gert Judmaier are once again on their way to Mount Kenya, this time to celebrate the success of the 1970 rescue mission.

    Salzburgs ewige Berge

    Salzburgs ewige Berge

    Gabriel Castañeda (2016)

Together with film actor Simon Schwarz we go on the Großvenediger and many other historical Salzburg mountains. The actor climbs the highest peak of the federal state of Salzburg 175 years after the first ascent. Technically, the 3,667 meter high Großvenediger is not a big challenge for alpinists, but it wrestles great respect from the actor. A bad weather front makes the tour a real challenge and Simon gets to know the hard side of the Großvenediger.
