Severino Casara (1954)
The mountain guides of Valtournenche replace in one day the fixed hemp ropes of the Matterhorn overcoming a sudden storm. The film starts with the characteristic ceremony of the blessing of the ropes in the village square and then follows the works to bring the ropes up to the summit of the mountain by the Italian side. The figure of Antonio Carrel, who first climbed the mountain from the Italian side, is reminiscent. Severino Casara also filmed the replacement of the fixed ropes in the Dent du Geant in his 'Han legato il Gigante' (1954).- 1954

The documentary shows scenes of mountaineers climbing in the the Mont Blanc Massif glaciers and also focusses on the beauties of the landscapes and the life of people in the surrounding valleys. First we see a party of three roped men crossing different glacier passages on the way up to the Breithorn and later, Toni Gobbi e Giulio Salomone overcome vertical ice slopes in a climbing route in the Mont Blanc Massif. The film, by the Italian prolific mountain filmmaker Severino Casara was awarded at the Venice Film Festival.- 1955

In Luci d'oro in the Dolomites, Severino Casara brushes an alpine painting in vivid colors; the colors of the valleys and the mountains in the Dolomites in autumn and in winter. In autumn we see a man climbing a rock face in the Dolomites. In winter, we see two mountaineers roped and overcoming difficult ice passages. The protagonist of the film is Valerio Quinz, the renowned mountain guide of Misurina. Quinz opened numerous new routes in the Cadini, Cristallo and Tre Cime di Lavaredo groups, and made several solo repetitions.- 1954

Severino Casara (1952)
A film by Severino Casara dedicated to his friend Emilio Comici, who died tragically in a climbing accident in 1940. The documentary includes some shots of the great climber in action in the Dolomites. Comici, nicknamed the 'Angel of the Dolomites', is considered as the most extraordinary climber of the period between the two World Wars. He made over 200 first ascents in the Dolomites during his short career. Comici perfected the Bavarian technique of mountain climbing, and began the era of 'sixth grade' climbing. It was Comici who originated the concept of climbing direttissima routes, following the path a drop of water would take down the mountain.- 1952

The documentary tells the acrobatic crossing from the standing Campanile Misurina to the impressive spire named Guglia de Amicis by a hanging rope, completed by Tita Piaz and Bernhard Trier in 1906. Then we see two climbers climbing the rock spire from the bottom and finally doing an exciting rappel from the top. At the beginning of the film there is the re-enactment of the figure of Edmondo de Amicis, the italian novelist, who also wrote memorable pages about mountains.- 1952

We also see a dozen guides replacing the fixed hemp rope in the most difficult passages of the routes to ascend the Matterhorn and the Dent du Géant. Finally, the rope appears as an element of safety for downhill skiers on crevassed glaciers and for rock climbers in the vertiginous descents of the Dolomite walls. Some young beats climb into Brenta with a guitar and making a lot of noise at first, but then they are captivated by the mountain and admire the legendary climb that a climber is doing in solo style on the Preuss Route to Campanile Basso; the climber in the beautiful recreation is the academic of Trentino Diego Baratieri. To honor the memory of the famous guide Luigi Comici, two climbers climb a sixth grade wall of one of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The adventure of the two climbers, forced to stay overnight on the rocks, sometimes takes on dramatic aspects. During the break, one of the two mountaineers tells the other an episode of the First World War, which took place in those mountains. Two Italian Alpines, attacked by two Alpenjäger armed with hand grenades, repulsed them with stones. The film, originally titled 'Il richiamo dell'Alpe splendente' was distributed in 1949 by the Metro Goldwyn Mayer under the title of 'Cavalieri della montagna'.- 1946
