The Climbers
Sid Perou (1988)
This film documents ascents on the cliffs of Kame on Foula in the Shetlands, at 1,300' one of the highest sea cliffs in the British Isles. It was an unusual expedition, in that although it featured some top climbers, it was initiated by Abigail Mann, a relatively inexperienced teenager. The film was broadcast on 24th September 1989 on BBC One, although it had been also been broadcast by the BBC earlier that year. The main climbers were Jonny Dawes, Dave Thomas, Pete Whillance, and Paul Nunn. Sid Perou was the main cameraman as well as one of the producers.- 1988

Ron Fawcett at his peak in the climbing on the breathtaking limestone walls of the Verdon Gorge of Southern France, accompanied by his wife Gill and Gerry Peel. In the film, Ron and Gill are interviewed in Britain and we can see them climbing and training in the Peak District. Then in France, they camp with tents in a camping, and between climbs, they appear in a cafe terrace at night talking to Patrick Edlinger. Fawcett is noted for being amongst the outstanding rock climbers of the 1970s and 1980s, and for being one of the first professional rock climbers.- 1984
