During the southern winter of 1957-1958, a great expedition organized and financed by the Italian Guido Monzino arrived at the foot of the Paine Grande. The group of mountaineers was mainly composed of guides from Valle d'Aosta. It was on December 27 that Bich and Carrel's rope, followed by another support formed by Gobbi, Pellissier and Pession, could attempt the final assault. Although the conditions were very bad, the climbers managed to climb the eastern wall and reach the summit. The other objective of this expedition was to climb the famous towers. Faced with the difficulties encountered on the Central and Sur towers, the climbers fell back on the third, the Norte. The summit was reached by Bich and Pession on 16 January 1958. She then took the name Torre Guido Monzino.Climbing locations

The conquest of the Gasherbrum IV, one of the most difficult mountains of the Karakorum, took place on 6 August 1958 thanks to the second national expedition of the Italian Alpine Club led by Riccardo Cassin. It cost three months of hard work, risks and adversity: a choral effort that brought Walter Bonatti and Carlo Mauri to the top after unspeakable efforts. Technical difficulties are around the fifth degree; the altitude, the frost and the storm make progression exasperating. The Gasherbrum IV (7925 meters) even today, has only registered a handful of ascents.Climbing locations
