Viktor Wyss

A film of a Swiss expedition to Ecuador by Victor Wyss, with Dölfreist, P. Müller and E. Senti. The team first visits the coastal and jungle areas of Ecuador. In the second part, they move to the Andean Highlands and climb the volcanoes Chimborazo (6310 m) and Cotopaxi (6006 m). Wyss made several mountaineering movies and was honoured by the SAC (Swiss Alpine Club) with the honorary membership. He also worked with the Army Film Service.

Viktor Wyss shot 'Climbing in Bergell' with the mountain guide Sepp Z'graggen. The prelude takes place in the Bernina region. Five men with backpacks and picks climb up to the Tschiervahütte. Then the group marches off from the Fornohütte in Bergell. Roped up, they begin the ascent to Monte Rosso. On the summit, one of them splashes tea into the round with a Bocksbeutel, while others rub themselves with Tao sunscreen or inscribe themselves in the summit book. Back in the hut they knock a jass. Cut. At dusk, the mountaineers set off for Punta Rasica, climb up the sharp edge and abseil later. Again they return to the Fornohütte. At some point they grill a fire further down in the valley.

Mountain service in the Engadine shows the equipment of the mountain troops at the time, with skis, shoes and rucksacks brought back from the home by the army men, white jackets, a knot and calf bandages as well as avalanches of the type Christoph Iselin. The film shows the climb of the Piz Glüschaint, the construction of a snow-capped bivouac, the snow and avalanche research, the avalanches of avalanches with grenades and hand grenades, transports with trainers and also with dogs, avalanche hounds at work, the construction of a protective artificial tunnel, the setting up of cross-country skiers and smugglers - and again and again ski runs in the deep snow.

Pontresina mountain guides celebrated its 100th anniversary. On this occasion, Wyss filmed the parade through Pontresina and a mountain tour in historical costumes.
