    Women with altitude Vod

    Women with altitude

    Sarah Vaill (2010)

On the snow-covered peaks of the Bolivian Andes seven women are undertaking an epic journey. They are the survivors and friends of survivors of domestic abuse, bound together by their experiences. Struck by rockfall, severe weather, dissension and altitude sickness, the team's climb becomes a breathtaking and triumphant visual metaphor for finding the strength to overcome life's most colossal ordeals. 'Being in the dark was hard, it reminded me of another time that was hard', Sarah says in the near complete black, only the flashlights piercing the gloom. 'After an assault by a boyfriend, I couldn't face myself, I stayed alone in the dark'. But that is why Sarah is here, to confront that shadowy memory.

    Everest Vod

    Everest

    N. S. Thapa (1967)

In May 1965, an expedition sponsored by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and led by Lt. Commdr. M.S. Kohli reached the summit of Everest. This is the 35 minutes version of the 80 minutes official film, it mostly shows the climbing part and not the approximation march. There is also a 22 minutes version titled 'The challenge of Everest'. The expedition took three Paillard Bolex 16mm cameras and one lightweight magazine camera. Tripods were used only upto Base Camp. For higher camps modified ice-axes were used. Finally, all the three Paillard Bolex cameras despite anti freeze treatment were frozen. But the lightweight magazine camera, given to Captain Kohli by the Intelligence Bureau, without anti freeze treatment worked upto the summit though only for a few seconds.

    An American ascent

    George Potter (2016)

An American Ascent documents the first African American expedition to tackle Denali, North America's highest peak and explores the complex relationship many African-Americans have with the outdoors. As the United States transitions to a 'minority majority' nation, a staggering number of people of color do not identify with America's wild places. By embarking on the grueling multi-week climb of the 20,327ft Denali, nine African-American climbers set out to bridge this 'adventure gap' - challenging outdated notions of what adventure looks like by changing the face of America's biggest and baddest mountain on the 100th anniversary of its first summit.
