    Luxury liner

    Chris Alstrin (2008)

In 1976, Indian Creek was a little-known, dried-up, ancient riverbed in southeastern Utah. But in that year the impossible became the possible: Earl Wiggins climbed 'Supercrack', a 300-foot vertical sandstone fracture, from the ground up. Indian Creek is now considered one of the finest international climbing destinations in the world. 'Luxury Liner' is the story of a bold man behind an unthinkable idea. It pairs historical footage of the first ascent of 'Supercrack' with recent interviews that reminisce on an earlier time, when climbing necessitated fearlessness, confidence, finesse and humility.

    Cumbre

    Fulvio Mariani (1985)

The first ascent on the Cerro Torre in solitary and one day. November 26th, 1985. Late in the afternoon, Marco Pedrini attempted his descent. Assisted by a splendid full moon, he managed to reach the camp where his friends were waiting for his return, at 3 o’clock in the morning. Pedrini returned onto the peak on December 1st, with cameraman Fulvio Mariani. The weather was not good, so they both had to repeat their enterprise on December 1st in order to complete shooting on the higher part of the mountain. On December 23rd they climbed more than half way up and put the final touch to the first professional film shot on the Cerro Torre in the Patagonian Andes.

    Climbing the Jungfrau

    Frederick Burlingham (1915)

A record of the ascent of the Jungfrau by Frederick Burlingham accompanied by four mountain guides. The film starts with panoramics of the Eiger North Face from Kleine Scheidegg. The party begin the climb from the Jungfraujoch Station crossing the Jungfrau Firn and reaching the summit of the Jungfrau by the steep Roththal Sattel. Frederick Burlingham was a traveller cinematographer and one of the mountain film pioneers. Continuing the mountain film tradition established by Ormiston-Smith, Burlingham filmed several mountaineering films largely in Switzerland, taking mountain film in a new direction of immediacy and perceived peril. In the early history of factual filmmaking, Burlingham played a substantial role in developing the related genres of the mountaineering and the exploration film.
