Jean Afanasieff, a film director and the first Frenchman to climb Everest, pays homage to the veteran Georges Livanos, nicknamed 'the Greek', a famous mountaineer whose best performances were accomplished between 1950 and 1960. The documentary gives a clear-cut portrait. The personage comes out well on the screen and is genuine. Haston - A life in the mountains

The film analyzes the brilliant if tragically short career and tempestuous personal life of Scottish mountaineer Dougal Haston (1940-77). Haston gained fame with the first ascent of 'The Bat' in 1959. He went on to make his name as mountaineer in the Alps and greater ranges. In 1966 he was part of the team that made the first winter ascent of the Eiger Nordwand. He also achieved the first ascent of the South West face of Mount Everest in September 1975. Haston was the Director of the International School of Mountaineering in Leysin, Switzerland. He was killed in an avalanche in Leysin, Switzerland in 1977. A biographical portrait of the Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura, the first man ever to reach the North Pole solo, the first man ever to raft the Amazon solo, and the first man ever to climb Denali solo. In 1970 Uemura was the first member of a Japanese team of 39 climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest. In February 1984 Uemura began a solo winter climb of Mount McKinley. On February 13 he spoke by radio with Japanese photographers, saying that he had made the top and descended back to 18,000 feet. He planned to reach base camp in another two days, but never made it. His diary was found in a snow cave by a search party, but Uemura's body has never been recovered.

Tsuneo Hasegawa

Posthumous documentary that reconstructs the climbing life of Tsuneo Hasegawa. Hasegawa was an outstanding Japanese alpinist. His achievements include the winter solo ascents of the North Face Trilogy (Matterhorn in 1977, Eiger in 1978, Grandes Jorasses in 1979) and the world’s first winter solo ascent of the South Face of Aconcagua in 1981. He died in 1991 at the age of 43 in an avalanche while ascending the Ultar South east face. The film tries to answer the questions of why did Hasegawa intend to climb alone? How did the climbing world, the mountain companions, accepted it?

Tabei was one of the founders of the Ladies Climbing Club in Japan, with the slogan 'Let's go on an overseas expedition by ourselves'. Throughout her life Tabei had climbed the highest peaks of 56 countries. Junko was diagnosed of stomach cancer in 2012, nonetheless she remained a fervent mountaineer.
