Ueli Steck is known as one of the best solo climbers in the world, always ready to take a well calculated risk. This film portrays the 34-year old Swiss on the quest of his personal limit, when he tries to push the limits of modern alpinism. Spectacular images show him on his speed ascents on the Eiger, the Matterhorn and Grandes Jorasses. In addition, Steck meets the American Alex Honnold, in order to try a speed climb on the famous Nose in the Yosemite. Steck dreams of implementing his speed climbing skills on the huge 8000 m wall, after having failed on the Annapurna before.

Three generations of swiss climbers, at an hypothetical base camp, share the emotions they have experienced in their solo climbing and talk about the possible evolution of this hard and select discipline. The three protagonists are: Erhard Loretan, third man in climbing all the 14 eight-thousands; Ueli Steck, who is considered among the greatest climbers at the moment both on rock and ice; and Simon Anthamatten, a young promise of Swiss mountaineering, who has already demonstrated his drive and strong personality.

Two brothers, two passions and two eras: Alexey and Nikolay Sushtrov a chemist and a physicist have always been passionate mountaineers. Well-known members of the Academy of Sciences in the Soviet era, with the advent of Perestroika, the two brothers abandoned the miserable salary of researchers to make a living bringing western tourists to the mountains of Pamir and the Caucasus. A mountain symbolically associates their destinies: the Elbrus, the Caucasus volcano, which with its 5642 meters height is the roof of continental Europe.
