Eric Escoffier - La fureur de vivre
Bertrand Delapierre (2019)
The 'Escoffier style' is a unique cocktail of grace, speed and nerve. Minimal equipment, no tiresome need for recognition, no stress but instead betting it all on the very limits of what is thought possible along with an established daredevil reputation. Being independent, fast-paced, improvising, these were the rules he lived by. From 1985 onwards, everything he did was a success: delta, firsts, climbing, race driving... As he liked to say: "Nothing is impossible". He seemed indestructible. However, on 11 September 1987, a car accident left him hemiplegic, but not to be defeated, he soon set numerous goals.Eric Escoffier - La fureur de vivre

The Alex Megos Formula
Frank Kretschmann (2016)
A film portrait about the young world-class climber Alexander Megos. The viewers go on a four-part journey in search of the secret formula as they join Alex on his travels and during his climbing projects and get to know his home and origin. The viewers try to find proof, leaning on basic concepts from physics like gravity, friction, momentum, and others, of the existence of the formula. All four episodes take a look at Alex from different vantage points and different subject areas, always connected to an analogy from physics. The search for the formula leads to the conclusion that Alex is more than the sum of his traits.Frank Kretschmann, Franz Walter

Life in a legend's shadow
Chris Alstrin (2015)
Opportunities may be handed to you a little easier when you’re the son of a legend but that doesn’t guarantee success. Being dragged to Pakistan at the age of 1 for a climbing expedition only to come home with Chicken Pox and being told 'You’re never going to be as good as your father' would make any young child stay as far away from climbing as possible. Jess Roskelley the son of Legendary climber John Roskelley and the only American to receive a Piolet d’Or Lifetime Achievement Award for his climbing achievements thought the same way throughout his childhood until that one climb changed his entire life.- 2015

Will Stanhope - As a guide
Cameron Maier (2016)
Will Stanhope, a CMGA Guide, talks us through his philosophy on life 'as a guide' and showcases some of Tasmania’s best climbing. Last winter together with Sonnie Trotter and Cameron Maier, Will ventured down under to the fabled island. As he says... really an awesome place if you ever get a chance to visit; think high mountain crags, wave blasted sea cliffs, and some of the spindliest sea stacks on planet earth. Viewers beware: along with the climbing footage, there's a fair bit of head-scratching inside jokes in this video.- 2016

This mountain life
Grant Baldwin (2019)
Martina Halik and her 60-year-old mother Tania embark on a six-month ski trek through the treacherous Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. This journey has only been completed once before, and never by a female duo. Their adventure is interspersed with unheard stories of high-altitude human endurance and passion: a group of nuns inhabiting a mountain retreat to be closer to God, a photographer who is later buried in an avalanche, an impassioned alpinist, a focused snow artist, a couple who have been living off-grid in the mountains for nearly 50 years. What is it that leads these adventurous people to sacrifice everything – comfort, family, personal safety – for a life in the mountains?- 2019

The last climb - Eric Jones
Aled Llyr (2019)
Eric Jones is a legendary adventurer. A climber, parachutist, base jumper, balloonist, and motorbiker whose love for speed and his need for pulse-racing adventure has seen him live an incredible and inspirational life. Eric is widely recognized as Britain's most successful solo climber. It's the purest and most dangerous form of climbing - solo and with no safety rope. Now, this 82-year-old grandfather has one last epic climb - back to where it all began over 50 years ago on the dramatic southwest ridge of the Torre Delago, in the Italian Dolomites. Eric reflects on his own life, not just his climbing achievements, and how he fell in love with a young Australian teacher who abandoned her homeland for a new life in Snowdonia. A beautiful, poignant, and inspirational film about a great man growing old - but never too old.- 2019

Seele aus stein
Taylor Zann (2014)
This six-minute short film revolves around Bernd Arnold, the iconic barefoot climber from Saxony, who has logged over 980 first ascents in his 67 years. Now facing the phase of decline, he reflects on the power of psyche in overcoming fear. Before mainstream climbing brands, sponsorships, and magazines, Bernd was out on the rock pushing his limits. With no chalk, no protection, no shoes, and no rope, he has constantly walked the line between life and death. Why? As Camus once said, 'The struggle itself toward the heights is enough to fill a man’s heart.'- 2014

Speak to me softly
Henna Taylor (2018)
Climbers love to talk about exposure, about vertical rock faces and sheer ridgelines, and the experience of hundreds of feet of air underfoot. But what of the exposure that happens within? The inner dialogue and the battle with fear, expectations, and self? 'Speak To Me Softly' is a short film and case study into the emotional and mental side of climbing. Akin to reading someone else’s journal or sneakily looking over their shoulder, the film invites you to take an honest and intimate peek into the headspace of climber having a not-so-sendy day.- 2018

Rotpunkt
Chelsea Jolly (2019)
Through failure and success, Alex Megos strives to be the best climber in the world. The movie is a portrait of the German climber and a look into the history of free climbing including the likes of Kurt Albert and Wolfgang Güllich. The film analyses Megos through his strengths and weaknesses and delves into his origins, namely the start of the Rotpunkt movement, that revolutionary red dot invented in 1975 in Germany's Frankenjura by Kurt Albert which indicates that a route has been climbed free, without the use of aid for progression.- 2019

Rise
(2019)
Jacopo Larcher's pursuit to resolve 'Tribe', possibly the world's hardest trad climb, in Cadarese, Italy. For Larcher, this route represents not only 'the most difficult thing I’ve ever climbed' but also, and above all, the end of an odyssey that began 6 years ago when he first started to delve into the trad climbing game. This venture took Larcher from the rudimentary basics of climbing with nuts and friends to cutting edge trad repeats as well as huge big wall ascents, and over the years he has rapidly transformed into one of the most versatile climbers in the world. Tribe, with no fixed gear and climbed while placing all pro on lead, stands as testament to Larcher’s vision, ability and evolution as a climber.
