Expérimentation Vallot
Pierre Petit (2011)
What are the effects of high altitude on the human body and in particular its brain functions? How can we adapt to it? To answer these questions, 14 volunteer guinea pigs will undergo a series of tests at the Vallot Observatory (4300 m), near the summit of Mont Blanc. A scientific and mountain experience. 14 voluntary lend themselves to a battery of day and night tests (stress tests, neuromuscular tests, sleep assessment, cognitive tests, etc.) in the plain at Grenoble University Hospital on the one hand, and at high altitude for 6 days at the Vallot Observatory (4300 m). The central objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of hypoxia on brain function during a stay of several days at high altitude.- 2011

Le laboratoire face à l'Everest
Jim McKenna (1996)
The glass pyramid is the highest scientific laboratory in the world. Located opposite Everest, Nepal, at an altitude of 5030 metres, it hosts many researchers whose objective is to study the impact of very high altitude on the body. At this altitude, the human body must adapt. As with scuba diving, the hiker must mark landings every 510 metres. If the latter are not respected, the risk of 'mountain sickness' is very high, and this does not result in nausea and headaches at best, but can go as far as pulmonary or cerebral edema. Through various experiments on top athletes, a researcher is trying to understand these mechanisms in order to apply his findings to patients suffering from cardiovascular disease.Le laboratoire face à l'Everest

Höhenkoller im Himalaya
Gunther Hainke (2003)
This film describes the different symptoms of altitude sickness. For this purpose, an expedition to the Cho Oyu (8,210 m) has been documented. What happens in and to our body during the acclimatization to high altitudes is depicted in high-standard graphic presentations and animations. Famous mountaineers such as Peter Habeler and Professor Oswald Oelz talk about their experiences, and a group of scientists affiliated with Professor Klaus Mees from Munich explores the human body at different altitudes with the most modern instruments and receives surprising results. This film shows which physical and spiritual limits can be pushed by men on the top of the world and describes the dramatic consequences.- 2003
