L'ascension
Ludovic Bernard (2017)
A young man from the suburbs with no mountaineering experience decides to climb Mt Everest to show a woman he'd do anything for her. Though technically based on the true story of Nadir Dendoune, this is only in a very loose sense. Indeed, the main character's name, age, ethnicity, relations and entire motivation for wanting to climb to the top of Mount Everest were changed for the film. In fact, writer/director Ludovic Bernard never read the book which the film purports to adapt.- 2017

Meyer aus Berlin
Ernst Lubitsch (1919)
A bumbling, self-indulgent husband played by Ernst Lubitsch wants to get away for a fun weekend without his wife, so he fakes an illness for which his doctor prescribes fresh air and a country environment. He travels to a Swiss Tirol village, where he meets a popular, attractive young woman taking a similar break from her spouse. Recently befriended man and lady decide to go on a mountain climb. Their respective spouses on the other hand are also up to something. This is one of those characteristic films of the Lubitsch's Germanic stage; a satirical and ironic look on marriage and the bourgeoisie, full of sarcastic comments and hilarious situations.- 1919

Guided and miss guided
C.L. Chester (1919)
Could you sit down hard on a glacier eighty feet thick - and smile? The sweet young mountain climber in this picture has her own methods for getting up on jagged crags and towering peaks. But she gets there triumphantly - and smiles, smiles, smiles! That's how the film was commercially presented. The girl was a young tourist lady who buys a sweet mountaineering costume, hires two Swiss guides, and embarks on an ascension to Mount Assiniboine. A story written by Katherine Hilliker and produced by C.L. Chester in cooperation with Outing, 'the magazine of all outdoors'.- 1919

Touching the stairs
James Alexander (2008)
This film shows one of the last alpine challenges. The climbers want to conquer an up to now un-climbed staircase in a totally normal office building. The highest level is an absolutely unspectacular goal – nonetheless the alpinists take the challenge very seriously. The ascent is painfull and tough but the climbers work round to the highest level constantly from one landing to the next. A parody of all the alpine documentaries of this world with true english humor.- 2008

Storms - The movie
Alastair Lee (2005)
This anarchic comedy parodies the hard-core rock-jock mountaineering scene. Finally, a climbing film without any climbing or narrative, in this hysterical analysis of the modern climbing ethic. The onslaught of comedic sketches mirrors the achievements of our heroes. Features a battle scene, superheroes, villains, insane caricatures, short animations, and film parodies. Visually stunning, very funny and slightly risqué - an experimental climbing comedy falling off the edge. The film is composed of different shorts. One of them is a parody of Joe Simpson's Touching the Void ('Touching Myself').- 2005

Da lacht Tirol
Lothar Brandler (1967)
There’s excitement in a small mountain village in the Tyrol: The mountain climbers Margit Sollerer and Wolf Pretorius, who’ve already conquered so many difficult peaks, have arrived to climb the 'Pillar'. Especially difficult about the 'Pillar' is an extreme overhang, which even Hias Holleis’ sons Toni and Franz haven’t been able to climb. Since Hias wants to prevent his village becoming the laughing stock of Tyrol -which no doubt will be the case if the strangers are able to climb what the locals can’t- he dares both his sons to try the climb again.- 1967
