    L'ascension Vod

    L'ascension

    Ludovic Bernard (2017)

A young man from the suburbs with no mountaineering experience decides to climb Mt Everest to show a woman he'd do anything for her. Though technically based on the true story of Nadir Dendoune, this is only in a very loose sense. Indeed, the main character's name, age, ethnicity, relations and entire motivation for wanting to climb to the top of Mount Everest were changed for the film. In fact, writer/director Ludovic Bernard never read the book which the film purports to adapt.

    Der Kampf ums Matterhorn Vod

    Der Kampf ums Matterhorn

    Nunzio Malasomma (1934)

Sounded version of the 1928 film 'Der Kampf ums Matterhorn'. The added sound track included music composed by Schmidt-Boelckeb and dubbed dialogs by different actors. This version is slightly shorter than the silent film due to the disappearance of the movie titles. The story, based on the novel by Carl Haensel recreates the struggle between Edward Whymper and Jean-Antoine Carrel for the first successful ascent of the Matterhorn in 1865. In 1938 two new versions of the movie were filmed under the direction of Luis Trenker, who acted again in the role of Carrel. One version was shot in German (Der Berg ruft) and the other in English (The Challenge).

    Sfinga

    Sfinga

    Gregor Kresal (2011)

On the north face of Triglav, the highest peak in the Julian Alps, there is a giant wall known as The Sphinx. Daunting and imposing, it has stirred the imagination of Slovenian climbers for centuries, and is included itself as a character in this dramatic feature-documentary. With dizzying heights and sharp angles, this film recreates the heroic efforts of the first team to climb the Sphinx in 1966, and more recently, highlights the wall's first free climb. On the summit, the generations come together in a Who's Who of Slovenian mountain culture.
